Coach Murphy is a Native of Birmingham, Alabama where he attended Homewood High School(Freshman-Junior) and graduated from PelhamHigh School in 1997. Murphy lettered four years in Basketball and was a First Team All-Metro(Birmingham), All-County(Shelby) and All-State Basketball player. Nick Mersch
Asst. Varsity/Skill Development/Video Content Creator
Nick is a former Franciscan Basketball Player at the NCAA DIII level and a second year assistant under Coach Murphy. He grew up in Dallas, Texas where he attended Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas. He then went to Steubenville Ohio where he studied Broadcast Journalism and played 4 years for the Franciscan Unviversity Barons. He received honors his senior year winning the St. Sebastian award for an exemplary Franciscacn athlete. Nick moved to Mobile in 2022, and has served as an assistant on Coach Murphy’s staff for the past year. He runs a production company and covers basketball as well as many other sports for the Yellow Jackets
Tripp Cobb
Head Freshman
Varsity Assistant
Coach Cobb was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. For elementary and middle school, he attended St. Pius X. In 2015, he graduated from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. During his time playing Basketball at McGill(played for current head coach Phillip Murphy), Coach Cobb started games at both PG and SG while helping lead his team to an elite 8 and number one ranking in the state. In addition to playing Basketball, Coach Cobb was also a member of the football teams and baseball teams. Coach Cobb is also one of our Varsity Football assistant coaches.
Prior to returning home to McGill, Coach Cobb had stops coaching wide receivers at Opelika High School and running backs at Prattville High School.

Heath is a graduate of Cottage Hill Christian Academy class of 2021, where he was a member of the Varsity basketball team. He is currently enrolled and taking classes at Coastal Alabama South with plans to finish his degree in Secondary Education at the University of South Alabama. Heath has spent the last two seasons assisting his Alma Mater and Varsity Head Coach Adam Thomas. Heath looks forward to his new role in his first year with the Yellow Jackets.
